Lieutenant
​Matthew Racioppo,
​ Professional Services and Standards  Commander

Lieutenant Racioppo grew up in Yorktown and graduated from Yorktown High School in 2001.  After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps Reserves.  He served on active duty status for several years, which included a deployment to Iraq.  Upon returning to reserve status, he continued to serve while attending college at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Forensic Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice.  Lieutenant Racioppo was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 2012 and was hired by the Yorktown Police Department a short time later.  During his time in the patrol division, Lieutenant Racioppo worked as both a patrol officer and a desk officer.   He has also served in the roles of Accident Investigator since 2014 and as Drug Recognition Expert since 2018.  In 2019, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was assigned to oversee a patrol squad.  In January of 2025, Lieutenant Racioppo was reassigned to the Detective Division as the Detective Sergeant.  In June of 2025, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and was assigned as the Professional Services and Standards Division Commander.  He is tasked with overseeing the Department’s body-worn camera program, the School Resource Officers and in-service departmental training.
