20 Year Old Yorktown Man Charged with Felony DWAI-Drugs, Heroin Possession Following Traffic Stop7/21/2020
Yorktown Police report the arrest of a 20 year old Yorktown man, who is charged with Driving While Ability Impaired - Drugs, a class E Felony, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th, a class A Misdemeanor, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a Violation, Disobey Traffic Control Device and 2 counts of Driving to Left of Pavement Markings, all Traffic Infractions.
On July 18, 2020, at approximately 12:42 am, Sgt. Sansone was on patrol on Gomer Street in the area of Alden Drive when he observed a vehicle traveling northbound on Gomer Street in front of him allegedly cross over the double yellow lines in to the southbound lane and then back in to the northbound lane. The vehicle then allegedly crossed back over the double yellow lines into the southbound lane. Sgt. Sansone activated his emergency lights in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle then sped up, allegedly failing to obey the posted speed limit of 30 mph. The vehicle eventually came to a stop after turning eastbound on to London Road and the driver was identified as the defendant. After an investigation at the scene, it was determined that the defendant was allegedly driving while his ability was impaired by drugs and that he was allegedly in possession of a quantity of heroin and marijuana. He was placed under arrest by P.O. Premuto and transported to Yorktown Police Headquarters for processing. Upon further investigation at Yorktown Police Headquarters, it was determined that the defendant had a previous conviction within the last 10 years for driving while ability impaired by drugs. Following processing on the above charges, the defendant was issued an appearance ticket and uniform traffic tickets. He was released on his own recognizance to a responsible third party. He is due to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on August 27, 2020, at 6:00 pm. Comments are closed.
