Up To $5,000 Cash Reward Offered for Information Leading to Arrest in Fatal Hit-And-Run Accident8/27/2020
Yorktown Police are requesting information regarding a fatal accident involving a bicyclist that occurred in the area if the North County Trailway and Birdsall Drive.
On Sunday, August 23, 2020 at about 10:49 am, Yorktown Police responded to Birdsall Drive at the Westchester County Trailway (bicycle path) for a report of a bicyclist struck by a vehicle. Police arrived on scene and located the victim lying in the roadway with CPR being performed by a bystander. The victim was taken to the hospital and later died as a result of the injuries. An investigation determined that the victim was struck by a vehicle that had fled the scene southbound on Birdsall Drive towards Saw Mill River Rd. (Route 118). The Yorktown Police are looking for a possible Gray/Silver SUV or minivan that has passenger side damage and a broken rear tinted window. Someone has seen this vehicle or spoken with the operator of the vehicle and we are asking that anyone with any information regarding the accident contact the Yorktown Police Department at (914) 962-4141. The family of the victim is offering up to a $5,000 cash reward for information that directly leads to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this fatal hit-and-run. Yorktown Police report the arrest of a 36 year old Putnam Valley man, who is charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, an Unclassified Misdemeanor, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, a Class "A" Misdemeanor, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 3rd Degree, an Unclassified Misdemeanor. The defendant was additionally charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, Unregistered Motor Vehicle and Uninsured Motor Vehicle, all traffic infractions.
According to police, on August 17, 2020 at approximately 1:59 pm, officers responded to the area of Old Yorktown Road (Route 132) and Strang Boulevard for a report of a motor vehicle accident. An investigation at the scene revealed that the defendant was allegedly driving while ability impaired by drugs and in possession of a quantity of Alprazolam, a controlled substance. It is further alleged that the defendant failed to maintain the proper lane of travel, had an unregistered motor vehicle, had an uninsured motor vehicle and his driving privilege in New York was suspended for failure to pay child support. The defendant was placed under arrest and transported to the Yorktown Police Department for arrest processing. The defendant was processed on the above charges and released on his own recognizance to a responsible third party. He is due back in the Yorktown Justice Court on August 27, 2020 at 6:00 pm. Yorktown Police report the arrest of a 35 year old Montrose man, who is charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th Degree, a Class “C” Felony, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 1st Degree, a Violation, and Tinted Windows, a Traffic Infraction.
According to police, on August 16, 2020 at approximately 5:00 pm, Officer Hannigan was on patrol on Crompond Road when he observed a vehicle travelling westbound that allegedly had illegally tinted windows. Officer Hannigan conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle and identified the operator as the defendant. While speaking with the defendant, it is alleged that Officer Hannigan detected the strong odor of Marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Following further investigation, it is alleged that the defendant was in possession of a quantity of Marijuana and a quantity of Oxycodone pills. The defendant was placed under arrest and transported to the Yorktown Police Department for processing. The defendant was arraigned on the above charges by the Honorable Judge Raniolo and was remanded to the Westchester County Jail. The defendant is due to appear in the Yorktown Justice Court on August 20, 2020 at 3:00 pm. Yorktown Police report the arrest of a 43 year old Yorktown man, who is charged with Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, a Class “A” Misdemeanor, Criminal Mischief 4th Degree, a Class “A” Misdemeanor, Attempted Assault 3rd Degree, a Class “B” Misdemeanor, and Harassment 2nd Degree, a Violation.
According to police, on August 9, 2020 at approximately 11:01 PM, Officer Palladino and several other officers were dispatched to a Yorktown residence on the report of a domestic incident. Officer Palladino located the victim and initiated an investigation. After an investigation was completed it is alleged that during an argument the defendant took the victim’s cell phone from her to prevent her from calling 911 for emergency assistance, threatened to kill the victim, obstructed the victim’s breathing by squeezing her neck with his hand, and struck the victim in the torso with a closed fist. The defendant was placed under arrest and transported to the Yorktown Police Department for processing. The defendant was arraigned on the above charges by the Honorable Gary Raniolo, who issued a temporary order of protection on behalf of the victim. The defendant was held on $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond and is due to appear in the Yorktown Justice Court on August 20, 2020 at 3:00 PM. |
