Alert Bank Employees Held Police Nab Two Identity Theft Suspects

Yorktown Police report the arrest of a 19 year old Passaic, NJ resident who is charged with Attempted Identity Theft 3rd Degree, a Class “B” Misdemeanor, and the arrest of a 57 year old New York, NY resident who is charged with Attempted Identity Theft 3rd Degree, a Class “B” Misdemeanor, and Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree (2 Counts), a Class “D” Felony.

On April 22, 2021 at about 3:44 pm, Yorktown Police received a report that two subjects were in the Jefferson Valley Chase Bank on Lee Rd. attempting to fraudulently gain access to an account.  A bank teller became suspicious of the legitimacy of the identification presented and bank employees contacted the account holder, who confirmed he was not at the bank and the subjects had no authority to access his account.  The bank employees were able to stall until Officers Curtis and Hannigan arrived on scene and made contact with both suspects.  After the completion of an investigation at the scene, it is alleged that the 57 year old defendant identified himself as the victim by showing bank employees a fraudulent driver’s license and credit card, which were both in the victim’s name, in order to gain access to the victim’s bank account.  It is further alleged that the 19 year old defendant aided, abetted and acted in concert with the other defendant in his attempt to pose as the victim and gain access to the victim’s bank account.

After processing was complete, the 19 year old was issued an appearance ticket for the above charge, released on his own recognizance and is due to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on May 11, 2021 at 6:00 pm.  The 57 year old was arraigned on the above charges in the Yorktown Justice Court by the Honorable Gary Raniolo and released on his own recognizance.  He is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on June 3, 2021 at 6:00 pm.
