Car Leaves the Scene of an Accident.  Driver Arrested for DWI

7/13/2019

Yorktown Police report the arrest of a 26 year old Putnam Valley, NY resident who is charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a BAC over .18, and Reckless Driving, all Misdemeanors.  The defendant was also charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Fail to Obey, Fail to Keep Right, and Unsafe Lane Change, all traffic infractions.

According to police on June 24, 2019 at about 7:50 PM P.O. Curtin was on patrol on Barger St when he was flagged down by a motorist who reported that his vehicle was just struck by another car that left the scene of the accident.  P.O. Curtin was able to locate the vehicle on East Main St where he observed it allegedly committing the listed traffic infractions.  When he attempted to stop the vehicle the operator refused to comply.  The vehicle was ultimately stopped on Mill St.  An investigation identified the operator as the defendant and revealed that he was allegedly driving while intoxicated and for having a BAC over .18.

The defendant was arrested and brought to YPD for processing.  He was subsequently released on his own recognizance to the New York State Police who wanted him for an earlier leaving the scene accident.  He is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Court on July 2, 2019 at 6:00 PM.
