Carmel Man Charged with Felony, Multiple Misdemeanors Following Fire at Shrub Oak Pool in September12/28/2018
Yorktown Police report the arrest of a 19 year old Carmel man, who is charged with Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree, a Class “D” Felony, Arson 5th Degree, a Class “A” Misdemeanor and Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree, a Class “B” Misdemeanor.
On September 6, 2018 at about 7:14 am, the Yorktown Police Department responded to a Criminal Mischief/ Arson incident located at Shrub Oak Park, 3800 Sunnyside Street. Investigation at the scene revealed that an unknown subject or subjects entered the pool area and lit a fire, causing extensive damage. As a result of an ongoing investigation by the Detective Division, a person of interest was identified and sought for questioning in regards to the incident. On December 21, 2018 at approximately 10:25 pm, P.O. Hannigan observed a vehicle that allegedly crossed the pavement markings and initiated a vehicle and traffic stop. P.O. Hannigan recognized the defendant as the person of interest in the Arson investigation and contacted Shanahan. Det. Shanahan responded to the scene and an investigation on scene revealed that the defendant entered the fenced-in pool area at Shrub Oak Park and started a fire. The damage to the pool and related equipment is approximately $39,900.00. The defendant was then placed under arrest and transported to Yorktown Police Headquarters for processing. The defendant was processed at the Yorktown Police Department and arraigned in the Yorktown Justice Court by the Honorable Judge Raniolo, who set bail at $5,000 bond or $2,500 cash, which the defendant could not post. The defendant was then remanded to Westchester County Department of Corrections. The defendant is due back in the Yorktown Justice Court on January 3, 2019 at 6:00 pm. Comments are closed.
