Putnam Valley Man Charged with Robbery, Assault Following Gas Station Altercation

6/23/2020

Yorktown Police report the arrest of a 53 year old Putnam Valley resident who is charged with Robbery 3rd Degree, a Class “D” Felony, and Assault 3rd Degree, a Class “A” Misdemeanor.

On June 22, 2020 at approximately 3:53 pm, Yorktown Police officers responded to a report of an altercation in progress at the Courtesy Shell Gas Station located at 930 East Main St.  Upon arrival, officers met with the victim, who reported that an unknown subject had allegedly attacked him by the gas pumps, punching him in the face and body multiple times causing physical injury.  It is further alleged that the unknown suspect pushed the victim and forcefully pulled a cell phone out of his hand so he could not use it.  The suspect then fled the scene in a vehicle prior to police arrival.  An investigation was initiated at the scene, as officers and detectives began canvassing the area for the suspect and his vehicle.  While canvassing the area, Officer Beyrer located the alleged suspect vehicle parked and unoccupied at a secondary location in Yorktown.  Following further investigation, the defendant was identified as the suspect from the alleged assault and robbery and taken into custody without incident.  The defendant was transported to Yorktown Police Headquarters for processing.

Following processing on the above charges, the defendant was arraigned by the Honorable Gary Raniolo, who issued a temporary order of protection on behalf of the victim.  The defendant was released on his own recognizance and is due to appear in the Yorktown Justice Court on August 13, 2020 at 6:00 pm.
