Yorktown Police report the arrest of a 19-year-old Yonkers, NY, resident who is charged with Assault 2nd, a class D Felony, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, both class A Misdemeanors.
According to Police, on March 27, 2024, at approximately 10:10 AM, Officers were dispatched to Downing Park on a report of a male who assaulted two children. Upon arrival, they met with the victims and their mother who stated that an unknown male had approached the children in the playground and allegedly grabbed one child’s hood and pulled on it, obstructing his breathing. The male then went over to the second child and allegedly picked that child up by his hood and swung him around before dropping him to the floor, causing a scratch and redness to his head and eye. The male then went back to the first child and allegedly pushed him to the ground before kicking him in the stomach and running off into the wooded area. A description of the male was obtained and broadcast to additional responding units. P.O. Doherty and P.O. Houlihan entered the wooded area and were able to locate the male, who was identified as the defendant, and placed him under arrest. The defendant was transported to Yorktown Police Headquarters for processing. At Headquarters the defendant was processed on the above charges and brought before the Honorable Aviah Cohen-Pierson for arraignment. The defendant was unable to post bail and was remanded to the Westchester County Jail. The defendant is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on April 11, 2024, at 6:00 PM.
