Yorktown Police report the arrest of a 31-year-old Yorktown Heights man for Falsely Reporting an Incident 3rd Degree, a Class "A" Misdemeanor.
On January 15, 2022 at approximately 5:45 am, Yorktown Police responded to the Underhill Apartments for a report of a stolen motor vehicle from Summit Street in Yorktown Heights. They met with the reporting person, who said that he parked his 2017 Mercedes Benz C30 convertible on Summit Street at about 5:00 am and when he returned to his vehicle twenty minutes later, it was gone. PO Rana and Det. Beyrer were assigned to investigate. Det. Beyrer learned the vehicle in question was located in Ossining, NY that same morning after it had been involved in an accident and abandoned. Det. Beyrer continued his investigation and alleges the defendant was with the vehicle when it crashed in Ossining and it was not stolen from Yorktown as reported. On March 21, 2022, after multiple attempts to locate the defendant were unsuccessful, Det. Beyrer applied for an Arrest Warrant for the defendant for Falsely Reporting an Incident 3rd Degree. On April 18, 2022 Yorktown Police, Westchester County Police & Peekskill Police assisted the US Department of Probation as they conducted a home check on the defendant at 250 Underhill Ave in Yorktown Heights. Federal Probation Officers located the defendant and detained him based on the Yorktown Police Arrest Warrant. The defendant was arrested on the Yorktown warrant and brought to the Yorktown Police Department for processing. Federal Probation Officers, in their check of the residence, allegedly located a loaded, semi-automatic handgun, which they allege the defendant is unable to lawfully possess due to previous felony convictions. After the defendant was arraigned by the Honorable Gary Raniolo on the Yorktown Warrant, he was released into the custody of US Department of Probation officers and was brought to Federal Court in New York City for allegedly possessing a weapon in violation of the conditions of his probation.
